Paper title: EMBEDDED PLATFORM FOR DEVELOPING MEDICAL APPLICATIONS
Author(s): LIVIU BRENIUC, CRISTIAN GYŐZŐ HABA, VALERIU DAVID,
Abstract: This paper presents a platform for developing medical applications (PDMA). The platform is controlled by a microcontroller
based microsystem and contains high-capacity local memory, GPS receiver, sensors and Bluetooth interface. The PDMA is
modular and flexible, and can be extended with other sensors or modules to support the application effectively implemented.
Using Bluetooth interface, the system can be controlled by a computer within an operating distance which is typically 10 m. For
long distance control, the system uses the SMS service over a GSM connection. The PDMA can be connected to the GSM
environment using a smartphone or mobile phone equipped with Bluetooth interface. The features of proposed system are
demonstrated in an application for human fall detection and real time human tracking. Besides the interpretation of free fall
signatures and the free fall or person status classification an important implemented feature is the reconstruction of the path
walked by a person, indicating the direction and speed of travel.
