Abstract:

We present two types of specially designed and prototyped medical devices based on contact thermography and intended for the detection and localization of very early breast cancers. The breast temperatures are sampled with an array of sensors. Then the difference field and the normalized field are computed. An anomaly in these fields may indicate the presence of a tumor. The full surface temperature field is interpolated from the sensor temperatures. This interpolated field is part of the boundary condition for the Pennes equation and could be used to locate the tumor by solving an inverse temperature field problem.
