Abstract:

Today, the need for high efficiency electrical machines became very important and the modern trends in the manufacture of the motors are oriented towards the design and production of electrical machines with improved efficiency at a low supplementary cost. This extra cost could be due to the savings, made during the operation steps of the manufacturing process. In the paper there were analyzed two high quality commercial steels, M400-50A and M400-65A with thickness of 0.50 mm and 0.65 mm, cut through punching and water jet technologies. All the samples have the length equal to 300 mm and the width of 30, 15, 10, 7.5 and 5 mm. The magnetic characterization was made using a laboratory single strip tester (SST), which can make standardized measurements on samples with an area of 300 mm × 30 mm. In order to have the standard width of 30 mm, there were put together side by side 2, 3, 4 and 6 pieces. The relative magnetic permeability (modulus, real and imaginary components), the total energy losses, the coercive field and the remanent magnetic polarization values were analyzed at the industrial frequency of 50 Hz as a function of magnetic polarization and cutting density, to underline the influence of cutting technology on the magnetic properties.
