Abstract: Modern versatile thermographical techniques have recently renewed the research
direction for the early detection of the breast cancer. An unusual temperature field on
the breast surface can be induced by the presence of a malignant tumor, due to a higher
metabolism of the cancer cells comparing to the normal ones. Localising the tumor and
determining its morphology based on the temperature field on the breast surface is an ill
conditioned problem that needs a huge computation effort. We investigate the influence
of the breast tissue thermal and geometric parameters on the surface temperature field.
Also, some techniques for determining the affected area are commended. A simplified
model of the breast geometry is adopted in order to obtain an analytical solution for
Pennes’ equation. The results are extremely useful for the analysis of the real breast
geometry, drastically limiting the investigation area
