Abstract: A d.c. motor position drive system can be operated using conventional position, speed
and current control or advanced methods such as feed-forward or torque control. These
control methods provide good dynamic and stationary performances, but they do not
take into consideration the conversion’s efficiency. The objective of the paper is to
develop a new control law, optimal type, which minimizes the consumption energy
used to perform a given position trajectory and also provides acceptable dynamic and
stationary performances. The synthesis of the optimal energetic control law is
accompanied by a comparison between two control methods, conventional and optimal,
and by two proposals for implementation. The simulation results that assess the
performances of the proposed control method are also presented.
