Paper title: PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF WIRELESS COMMUNICATION ALGORITHMS ON A VECTOR SIGNAL PROCESSOR

Author(s): PETER WESTERMANN, GERALD BEIER, HAMZA AIT-HARMA, LUDWIG SCHWOERER,

Abstract:

The Software Defined Radio (SDR) principle is a key technology for mobile devices as well as base stations. Especially femto cells for small-distance indoor environments are of major interest. This paper presents an evaluation of the Embedded Vector Processor (EVP) as one possible principal component of an SDR femto-sized base station. We present results of our performance analysis of selected W-CDMA baseband algorithms. We give a detailed description of the mapping of a SIMO chip-equalizer and an high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) downlink spreader on the EVP. The achieved performance demonstrates that the EVP may satisfy real-time requirements of current mobile communication standards.

Keywords: Wideband-code division multiple access (W-CDMA), Single instruction multiple data (SIMD), Vector processing, Baseband signal processing.
